Poison Ivy is related to cashew & pistachio nuts, which are members of the Cashew family. Poison ivy can be either a woody vine or shrub, depending on its environment. It grows along stream and canal banks, around lakes with tree cover, as well as in moist meadows. The leaflets at the end of branches grow in threes, often with some of the leaflets being bright red. As well as the dry pollens the oils (principally urushiol) can cause severe skin rashes. These rashes can be potentially dangerous if scratched and become infected.
