Bulbous bluegrass is a cool-season bunchgrass that is believed to be native to Southern Asia and the Mediterranean Area. It is now in the US and it mainly grows in Southern Oregon and Northern California.

Its stems grow to reach 18 inches high. The growth starts in the fall and continues through winter and spring in mild climates. It stops growing when the bulblets form about mid-May.
